After 32 Years, Sheikh Shuraim Bids Farewell To Grand Mosque in Makkah

Months of speculation ended on Wednesday evening when the Presidency for the Affairs of the two holy mosques, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, confirmed through the release of the annual Taraweeh Schedule ahead of Ramadan that Sheikh Saud Ash Shuraim has retired.

Earlier in January, reports said a prominent Imam of one of the Harams had resigned. Inside the Haramain confirmed in February that the Imam was Sheikh Saud Ash Shuraim.

As at the time of filing this report reasons behind his early retirement has not been revealed.

The General President of Imams of Haramain , Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais,

Sheikh Shuraim was Imam and Khateeb of Masjid Al Haram for 32 years when he retired after leading his final Prayer in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah on 12 Rabi Al Awwal 1443.

He was appointed in 1991, retired on October 6th 2022 corresponding to 12 Rabi Al Awwal 1444.

One of the most recognizable Qa’rees of modern times, the Imam’s absence will leave the House of Allah without a familiar voice.

A voice of Haram for 32 years, The Presidency confirmed the retirement of the Imam following his exclusion from Taraweeh Prayers for Ramadan this year.

Imams for Taraweeh Prayers in Masjid Al Haram for 2023 Ramadan are;

1. The President, Sheikh Sudais
2. Sheikh Bandar Baleelah
3. Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqly
4. Sheikh Yasir Ad Dawsary
5. Sheikh Abdullah Juhany

Guest Imams may be appointed and will be announced in due course, Sheik Sudais said.
