Police Parade Kano Lawmaker Who Allegedly Led Mob To Burn INEC Office

A member of Kano State House of Assembly, Isiyaku Ali Danja Gezawa and 164 persons were arrested by the Kano State Police Command for allegedly trying to set ablaze the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and a police station.

Ali Danja, of Gezawa Constituency, was alleged to have led a team of hoodlums to destroy the INEC collation centre in Gezawa.

Already INEC had declared the House of Assembly result of the area inconclusive following the violence that trailed the elections.

Speaking, the DIG in charge of election in Kano, Hafiz Muhammad Inuwa, on Sunday while parading the suspects arrested for various political crimes during the conduct of the recently concluded governorship and House of Assembly elections, warned that the police would not tolerate breakdown of law and order.

He stated that those paraded are accused of alleged ballot box snatchings, disruptions of elections, engaging in violence, wielding dangerous weapons and engaging in drugs related crimes.

He assured that the suspects will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, urged the public to cooperate with the police in ensuring that they do not engage in wild celebrations that might lead to a breach of the law, reminding them that police have banned wild celebrations in the state.
