I Was Offered N100m To Step Down — 33-year-old Teacher Who Halted Yobe Speaker’s 6th Term Ambition Reveals

Lawan Musa Majakura, a 33-year-old volunteer teacher who defeated the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Ahmed Mirwa Lawan, in the recently concluded Governorship and State Assembly elections, has claimed that he was offered N100 million to step down.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate polled 6,648 votes to defeat Ahmed Lawan of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 6,466 votes.
The father of four made this startling revelation in a recent interview with Daily Trust, where he revealed that he received the offer from a government official and others who urged him to step down for the incumbent speaker, who had held the position for five terms.

According to him, he was initially offered N18 million, which he declined, and the offer was later increased to N100 million.
His words,“To be honest with you, he did not contact me to step down for Lahim by himself, but a government official and some people I thought were his representatives came to me two times, telling me to step down.

“They promised to give me N18 Million, but I refused. Later on, they came back and offered me N100m, but still I refused.

“I told them that my village people bought the nomination forms for me because they believed I would do better, so I did not see any reason to step down for anybody.
“I told them to meet my people if they actually wanted me to step down for whoever sent them to me. I even told my people what we discussed but we all agreed that I would not step down, so we moved on with our campaign.”
