New Malaria Vaccine Will End Child Mortality – Uniosun Prof. Assures
A professor of Public Health Entomology and Parasitology of the Osun State University Osogbo, Professor Monsuru Adeleke has assured the public that the new malaria vaccine announced by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC, will put an end to child mortality.
He said, “If about seventy five or eighty percent of the children are vaccinated and protected the child mortality and all others things are coming to an end.”
He further said the malaria vaccine is not meant to be administered to adults but children saying their immune system is still low to fight against malaria.

According to Professor Adeleke, “You and I (adults) can battle malaria because of our immunity and our lifestyle,
We can have malaria and battle it at overtimes.
“We have the parasite in us but our immunity is able to deal with it and once our immunity is able to deal with it we are fine at adult level.
“But we are talking about children, which their immunity won’t be able to deal with anything.

Highlighting the three categories of people who can take the malaria vaccine on a Rave FM, Osogbo, on Tuesday, the professor in health said “the first people are children because of their immunity.
“The second people, they are the pregnant women, because to the extent that their immunity is also compromise.

“Then the last one, they are the immuno compromise individuals people that are having HIV/AIDS or other Health complications their immunity will have been compromised. ”
He ,however stated that, the vaccine will only be administer to children between 5 months to 36 months who is about three years.
